December is dry and clear on Japan's Pacific coast (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto) — only about 4–6 rainy days. Low humidity (45–55%) and crisp air make for excellent visibility, including stunning views of Mt. Fuji from Tokyo.

The Sea of Japan coast and Hokkaido receive heavy snowfall. Sapporo accumulates significant snow cover, and ski resorts across Hokkaido and the Japanese Alps begin their season.
